S. (Ram) Ramalingam, MD
S. (Ram) Ramalingam, also known as Ram (pronounced ROM) is the Chief Medical Officer at Baylor Scott & White Health Plan. He follows the principles of Triple Aim and is committed to working collaboratively, diligently and effectively to achieve goals, so that patients and members receive high-quality, innovative, and value-based care and a remarkable patient experience. Prior to joining Baylor Scott & White, Dr. Ramalingam served as the Chief Quality Officer of Mercy Health and President of Mercy Health Select, the clinically integrated network affiliated with the health system. He led Mercy Health’s efforts to promote high-quality, efficient care by investing in primary care, expanding the use of value-based contracts, and improving outcomes over large populations.
Dr. Ramalingam served as Vice President of Medical Management at UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) Health Plan in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has extensive leadership experience in Utilization Management, Case and Disease Management, Clinical Reporting, Shared Savings, bundled Payments, Quality Management and Medical Policy development.
He served for four years on the Governor’s Chronic Care management, Reimbursement and Cost Reduction Commission, a board of 37 individuals from across the state who work to improve how Pennsylvanians with chronic disease receive health care. Ram also holds a faculty appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. Additionally, he served on the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians and is the Pennsylvania Medical Society delegate from the Allegheny County Medical Society.
Prior to his time in Pittsburgh, Dr. Ramalingam served on the faculty at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences for more than a decade. He was the Associate Residency Director for the Department of Family Medicine, a program with more than 50 residents. He was instrumental in revamping the curriculum and recruitment strategies for the residency program. He also held the position of Director of Cross-Cultural Medicine and International Health at the University. During his tenure, he received five awards for Outstanding Teacher of the Year. He also received the Society of Family Medicine Resident Teacher Award. Dr. Ramalingam also served as the President of the New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP). He has a long history of success with Pay for Performance programs. He was appointed as a physician representative by the New York State Governor’s office and the Department of Health to develop a Pay for Performance program for the State of New York.
Dr. Ramalingam received his master’s degree in Business Administration from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. He completed his residency training and chief residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. He also completed two Fellowships, a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at Michigan State University, and a Cross-Cultural Medicine Fellowship at State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his medical training at Madras Medical College in India and his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
